DescriptionPhaser is a sweet and loving dog with a big heart, but since his mom and his siblings were fending for themselves before coming to True Blue Animal Rescue, he is still very shy with people. He doesn’t come up to you; and leaves it up to you to approach him. Phaser needs a loving, patient forever home and in the meantime, he would really benefit from a foster family who was willing to spend time with him and teach him to trust people. He does walk on a leash and is crate trained thanks to a wonderful volunteer.Do you have some extra love to spare? Phaser’s life story got off to a bumpy start, but with your help, it could have a happy ending. Fostering one of our dogs, like Phaser, for a month would make them more adoptable so they can find a forever home of their own. When you foster, all food and vet bills will be paid by True Blue Animal Rescue. We can also provide a crate for you to borrow if needed. If you are willing to foster Phaser or one of the other shy TBar dogs please call for more information at 936/878-2349.

The kind person who picked them up and took them to True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) knew they would be well cared for in a foster home. But this sweet retriever mix needs a forever home of her own. Missy is about six months old, and spayed and vaccinated, so she is ready to join a family who will appreciate her loyal and loving personality. She gets along wonderfully with adults, kids, and other dogs. Are you that special someone who will give Missy her opportunity to live the rest of her life in a loving, safe, home where she will never need to worry about being abandoned again? BuckySep072Web T-Bar Name:  Bucky T-Bar Number: D188 Weight: 45 lbs
Sex: Neutered Male  Age on 5/2009:  3.5 yrs
Breed:  Labrador / Shepherd
Color:  Black
ADOPTED – Thank You!!
DescriptionBucky had a difficult start to his life but that has just added to his character and charm. He came to True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) after being dumped in the country and found hiding out under a fallen cattle panel. A nicked ear and a couple of other small scars are testament to his past abandonment. Now Bucky walks on a leash, is crate trained, and could easily be completely housebroken. Buck is a sweet, black Labrador / Shepherd mix which puts him in the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ of animal rescue. That’s the place where black dogs go, and they have a hard time finding their way out to a forever home. No one knows why this phenomena exists; it just does. And poor Bucky has been stuck without a family through no fault of his own. He’s friendly, loving and playful. At 1.5 years old, he’s past the puppy stage of teething and jumping all over you, and would make a great companion for you and other dogs. Buck is very intelligent and willing to learn, so if you want to teach him tricks, he’s ready! All he needs now is for someone to see him for his wonderful Self and adopt him. As TBAR finds homes for Bucky and other dogs, we will be able to make more room for the many strays and hurricane refugees

Dakota T-Bar Name:  Dakota T-Bar Number: D357 Weight:15 lb
Sex: Boy Puppy  Age on 6/15/2009 16 wks
Breed:  Boxer Mix
Color:  Brown/black brindle  with white chest & face
Adopted – Thank You!
Description: If Dakota has a look of puzzled hurt on his face, it is well justified. He’s probably wondering why in the world someone would starve him, ignore him, and then push him out of their truck on a lonely country road. (A crime by the way.) Happily for Dakota, someone saw what happened, picked him up, and brought him to True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR). Since this photo was taken, this adorable 4-month-old boxer mix puppy has already begun to put on weight and is crate trained. Dakota is friendly to people and to other dogs. He’s such a sweet dog too! He stays in his crate or kennel and quietly waits for someone to come get him and take him out or feed him. It’s like he’s saying, can I really stay here? It’s so nice here, do I get to stay? He can’t believe he gets to eat several times a day! Please consider giving Dakota the loving forever home he so deserves.

DarlingTopWeb T-Bar Name: Darling T-Bar Number: D244 Weight: 5lbs
Sex: Spayed Girl Age on 2/2009:
Breed:  Labrador
Color:  Black
ADOPTED – Thank You!
Darling is much too friendly to have been a lifelong stray; and because of this, she trusted the wrong people. Darling was found at a gas station. She was skinny, had an abscess and infection around her head and neck and she has a scar along the top of her back that is typically seen on dogs when someone squirts lighter fluid on an animal and lights it. Darling had nearly given up hope and was sitting to the side looking sad and forlorn when Melanie called her over. She decided to try and find help one more time and slowly walked over. After a trip to the vet to clean her wounds and get her started on antibiotics Darling started to come out of her shell. With plenty of good food Darling quickly put on weight and became the energetic, happy, lab mix that she had been before. The scar on her back will be a reminder that not all people are nice and that bad things can happen when you’re left out alone. Thank you to Darling’s sponsor:  Nancy Shulman

Description: Charlie is remarkable for several reasons. This adorable light brown & white puppy has one brown eye and one “pie” eye (half blue & half brown). Charlie’s survival is pretty remarkable too considering that his pregnant mom was dumped and left to fend for herself, and give birth to eight babies by a lonely country road. Remarkable also is that a caring individual happened upon them just in time and brought them to a TBAR foster home. At almost six months old, Charlie is now a happy and affectionate retriever/beagle mix overflowing with love to be lavished on his forever family. He gets along great with other dogs and is neutered and vaccinated and ready to go home

Sex: Neutered Boy  Age on 2/2009 9 months
Breed: Terrier / Beagle
Color:  Black and White

Description:

Special Simon had a rough start in life. Found abandoned and with terrible ant bites all over his body when only three weeks old, Simon was barely hanging on to life. One veterinarian didn’t give him any hope at all. But his foster mom wouldn’t give up and nursed and bottle-fed him around the clock. With the help of another veterinarian – and with the heart and will to fight for his life – Simon pulled through. He is now a healthy, energetic four-month-old testimony to the will to live. Simon is a handsome black & white medium-small terrier mix who loves other dogs, children, and even cats. He’s neutered and current on vaccinations. Simon has earned the chance for a good home where he can run freely in a safely fenced backyard and then come in to snuggle on the sofa and receive plenty of belly rubs in which he so delights. For more information, contact TBAR at 936- 878-2349 or visit the website at www.t-bar.org to see color photos. TBAR is looking for temporary foster homes to care for dogs like Simon until the right forever home comes along.

Sex: Neutered Boy Age on 1/2009 1.5 yrs
Breed: German Shepherd/ Dutch Shepherd

HOUSEBROKEN; CRATE-TRAINED
Color:  Brindle
ADOPTED – Thank You!
Description: Dutch was on the euthanasia list when we came across him at the Animal Control Facility, He is approximately 1.5 years old, is very intelligent and seems to have had a lot of training, is housebroken, crate trained, is better with older kids (only because of his energy level), He seems to have come from a good home, but he had no micro-chip to be able to trace him back to his family and his time was up at the shelter. He is a German Shepherd/Dutch Shepherd mix, and is a strikingly beautiful animal that attracts a lot of attention in public. Dutch would love to have a big fenced yard, and wants very much to be treated as part of the family and included in all their activities. Dutch is very a special dog and very unusual in his level of intelligence, and is looking for his special family to come and make him part of their home. Dutch is a real looker, cars stopped to watch him the day we had him at Petsmart!  Update: Dutch was adopted to a wonderful forever home. He is a therapy dog for their other dog that was a severe abuse case.  They say he looks after her, and now she will even go for walks with Dutch and go outside.

Husky T-Bar Name:  Husky T-Bar Number: D343 Weight: 40 lbs
Sex: Neutered Boy Age on 12/2008 1 yr
Breed: Siberian Husky
Color:  Beautiful blue eyes and husky coloring

ADOPTED – Thank you!
Description: Husky was found wandering around Navasota by a True Blue Animal Rescue member; and nobody has claimed him. The lady who found him has 7 other dogs and cannot keep him any longer. He tries to play with her dogs through the fence so he doesn’t appear to be aggressive and he plays with her other big female when she let her out with him. He is a gorgeous dog and is not food aggressive either.  He was kept in her storage room and he didn’t make a mess so he’s apparently housebroken. He cannot continue to be locked up in her storage room because she needs that space for her dogs to sleep. Please consider taking in this sweet dog and either fostering him until we can find him a home, or make him your permanent pet. He’s an absolute doll and looks to be under one year old.  For more information, contact TBAR at 936- 878-2349

Even though she’s small she is not a lap dog. She is very loving and affectionate but due to her energy level she needs lots of exercise so she doesn’t have time to sit on your lap. She’s very curious and will check out the house or yard and then quickly moves onto something new. She is very smart and would love to have an owner who has time to teach her tricks. She needs a home with a fenced yard.  Her cute face and comical expressions will make you fall in love with her instantly. She is housebroken and crate trained, spayed and current on all her shots.

Sex: Neutered Boy Age on 7/2008 1 yr
Breed: Australian Shepherd / Heeler Mix
Color:  White with Orange on his head and back
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
Description: Skip probably knows what a handsome dog he is but it has never gone to his head. No one knows his background but he must have had a good home at one time. Skip is a very calm and sweet dog who is very well-behaved. He comes when called and sits when you ask him to. He’s really smart too. He knows which bowl is his food bowl. At feeding time, he leads the younger puppies at True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) to their bowls and then goes to eat at his own bowl. Other dogs would just growl at them and chase them off but this guy is smart enough to think of a better way. When the pups are inside the house and they need to go out, Skip goes in and rounds them up and they follow him outside. Skip is about a year old and a striking white with tan head and tan spots on his back. He is neutered and vaccinated. Probably a Australian shepherd/heeler mix, he will be a loving and loyal member to the lucky family who adopts him. For more information, contact TBAR at 936- 878-2349

Update 8/15/08:  “We had the pleasure of having Blue in our home for 3 days. He was nothing but a sweetheart. He was housetrained and crate trained. He slept fine in the crate at night. He was not aggressive with any people he met, or our other dog. When our dog got aggressive with him, he didn’t get scared or growl back, he just wagged his tail. He is not possessive of his food, and even let our other dog take bites out of his bowl. He walked well on a leash and rode great in the car. Were it not for our dog’s hip problems, we would have loved to make Blue a permanent member of our family.”
– Mary Pena
Blue’s Story: Blue was founding wandering in the country. He was limping badly and was very skinny. X-rays revealed a high break on his back leg. Being a young dog, we opted to put the leg in a cast which should heal nicely over the next 6 weeks. Blue required a special procedure to set his leg which cost $600 (surgery would have been $1200). Update 6/15/08: A follow-up x-ray shows that Blue’s leg is healing nicely. He’s right on track to a full recovery.  Update 6/27/08: Blue’s cast came off today! He is still thin but now that the cast is off his body can start using energy to gain weight instead of healing. He has bald patches on his front legs from the IV’s he had and his back leg is still stiff and has bald spots from the cast. The leg that had the cast on is the far one. Update: Nov 08 – Blue went home to live with his new mother, Becky, who has three other dogsBlue’s vet bill totaled over $1200.

Breed: Shepherd  HOUSEBROKEN
Color:  Black with tan and white markings
Adopted THANK YOU!  Location: Washington, Texas
DescriptionGeorgie isn’t head of his class – he’s average. He doesn’t have stunning good looks, he’s average. Even his story of how he ended up at True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) is average – someone found him dumped on the streets. So Georgie has been overlooked time and time again, for the cute puppies, the unusual colorings, the really sad stories. Georgie is just your average wonderful family dog. The kind of dog that gets along great with everyone – other dogs, people, especially kids – and everything – walks, inside, and outside. He loves water whether playing in the sprinkler, with a hose or in a kiddie pool. This 3 year old Shepherd is on the small size, only 45 lbs; neutered, current on shots and longing for a home of his own. Won’t you take a closer look at Georgie?
November 2008 – Georgie was “officially” adopted this weekend by a wonderful couple.  He is living inside with his new family and loving the extra attention

ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: College Station, Texas
Description: Shep isn’t for every body. In fact, Shep isn’t the dog most people would
want. Only a very special kind of heart will say yes to Shep.
Shep’s story started out all right, but took a sad turn…Having been loyal to his family for over 11 years, Shep’s loyalty was repaid by being dumped in the woods of Somerville. He lost alot of weight trying to find his way home. Wandering the woods, he got caught in a trap but bravely kept looking for home even with a badly damaged toe (which had to be amputated). As if that’s not sad enough, Shep has a terminal case of heartworms*. So one way or another, Shep has only a couple of years left -With good food and loving, Shep will again become a striking black and tan German Shepherd. He’s a gentle, calm-natured dog; and he seems to appreciate the 2nd chance he’s getting. He gets along well with other dogs too. He’s neutered and had all his shots. So you see, Shep needs a very special person with a big, loving heart that can give this stately gentleman the glorious, loving retirement he so deserves. There’s no long term commitment of 15+ years like with most dogs; just a rewarding, short-term love affair with Shep.

“We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.”

Sex: Neutered Boy Age on 5/2007 1 yr
Breed:  Beagle / Boxer
Color:  White with orange patches
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
Update June 2008: A very special family came along that fell in love with Popeye. Even though Popeye was not officially up for adoption, this family was able to do whatever Popeye needed to make him a part of their family and make him happy. Slowly and gently, Popeye was transitioned to their home. And Popeye fell in love with his new family. He’s happy, healthy and has his very own family. A wonderful, fairy-tale ending to Popeye’s story! Update June 2007: Popeye is recovering nicely. He has lost vision in one eye, but it doesn’t seem to bother him.  He has won the hearts of all the TBAR volunteers who care for him and his sponsors with his charming personality and happy attitude. His favorite activity is to pick up a soft, fluffy toy in his mouth and accompany the volunteers on the feeding rounds. He loves his toy! So full of life and love, how could any one hurt this dog?!

Update Dec 2007: Popeye’s abuser was found guilty! He was sentenced to 30 days in prison, has to pay the court $500 and has to pay Tbar the $600 initial vet bill that we paid. He also has to go to a mental health evaluation and anger management classes. Justice for Popeye!

* WARNING: Popeye’s story is horrible. Stop reading now if you don’t want your heart to break. **

Original Story: Popeye was seized by the Sheriff’s Department because a man had tied him up and beaten him with a golf club. X-rays showed that Popeye had a fractured skull, broken sinus cavity and a bulging eye. They also showed that he had been shot in the head. Later, the man confessed that Popeye was a stray and he was ‘doing us a favor’ by trying to get rid of him. While his injuries were critical, through it all, Popeye was wagging his tail and showing love to his caretakers. TBAR and the vet couldn’t give up on a dog who wanted to live so badly and could show love after all his abuse. The first few days were touch and go for Popeye and he wouldn’t eat. But slowly, he started to feel a little better and started to eat. Popeye has a long recovery, but he deserves a second chance at life, don’t you think?

Popeye before

If you would like to sponsor Popeye and contribute to his rehabilitation, we’ll keep you updated on his progress. You can know in your heart that Popeye will never again be hurt or suffer; he will only know love and kindness from now on. That’s our promise to him.

Thank you to Popeye’s sponsors:  Angela Sera
