Tbar Heaven 2012

kittensAnya, Lila, Lana and Nikolai
Anya, Lila, Lana and Nikolai were dumped on a back road in Anderson, TX and were lucky enough to be found by a TBAR foster home. They lived for one wonderful month in a loving foster home after testing positive for FeLv but not showing symptoms yet. A confirmatory lab test had been sent to New Jersey before they began to show symptoms. Once the symptoms set in, their quality of life went downhill quickly so their foster mom agreed with the vet that it was time to help them cross over the Rainbow Bridge peacefully.

ChesterChester
Chester was found by a TBar member, running along a busy street. He was emaciated and seemed to have been hit by a car. Chester enjoyed love, running free in a safe backyard and lots of food while awaiting amputation of his nerve-damaged leg. Unfortunately, he died during amputation surgery. RIP Chester.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Licorice was seized along with 19 pasture mates when his owner could no longer care for him. Like his pasture mates Licorice, or Proud Pusher, was thin but he also had a severe case of Uveitis or Moon Blindness. This condition caused him pain and the only solution would have been to remove his eyes leaving him completely blind. We decided that was not a quality life for this magnificent horse so we helped him cross the rainbow bridge. We will always remember him in this lush pasture eating to his hearts content before it was time to cross. He is now at peace with his father The Pusher CG

Mini Donkey

This little donkey was one of 19 that were removed from their owner because she could no longer care for them. His little body was all bones and his mother was dried and unable to provide him proper nutrition either. We fed him milk and feed in an attempt to get him to gain weight and recover. In a final attempt to save his life the vet tubed milk into him but he continued to decline and eventually passed away. This picture was taken while he still had the strength to stand and we’ll always remember him enjoying some grass and some peace before he crossed the rainbow bridge.

Chicklett

Name: Chicklett

Breed: Paint/Pinto  Gender: Female  Age: Young  Status: Adopted  Description: Paint filly, halter broke, leads, stands tied, loads in trailer..LOVES to be scratched and petted.

Band Aid Band Aid was born to Boo Boo shortly after arriving at her True Blue Animal Rescue foster home in 2010. Now approximately 1 year old, she would love to find a forever home along with her mama. By nature, mini donks are sweet, gentle, playful, and love human attention. They are easy keepers, get along with other animals, and are fun to have around.

Black Fury

WinsBlack Fury is a 3 yr old Welsh/Shetland pony gelding.

Boo BooBoo Boo was rescued along with 15 other mini donkeys when the Sheriff’s department found them wandering the streets. Shortly after arriving at her True Blue Animal Rescue foster home, she gave birth to a baby girl named Band Aid (Spring 2010). By nature, mini donks are sweet, gentle, playful, and love human attention. They are easy keepers, get along with other animals, and are fun to have around. They would love to be adopted together if possible. She is used to being handled and being led with halter or rope.

BuffyBuffy was found estray and when no owner came forward she was awarded to T-Bar. Buffy is a young horse who is halter-broke and aready to train.

Dream CatcherWhen Dreamcatcher first came to TBAR he was so skinny his knees wobbled.  Currently, DreamCatcher’s foster home reports that he has put on ALOT of weight, and that his top line has filled out nicely. He has a bit of a “hay belly” and no chest or butt yet, but nothing a little more exercise can’t cure. He leads well, is good for the farrier, and is doing well lunging in the round pen. He also enjoys a good bath, and loves attention. We haven’t tied him yet, we realized today, but we will try it out. He is still a little wary around strangers at first, but warms up quickly. We plan to pony him a little this weekend, see how he does with a group, in a new setting and how his feet hold up. They appear to be good and hard, but his heels were short and are growing out now.

GypsieGypsy was an estray and when no owner claimed her, she was awarded to TBAR. She is now healthy and ready for adoption. Gypsy was ridden previously and just needs a refresher.

HemmingwayHemmingway was wandering estray in a neighborhood and was extremely skinny. The authorities looked for an owner and when no one came forth to claim him, TBAR was awarded Hemmingway.  This older, 25 yr old horse is skin and bones but has already put on weight in his short time with TBar.  Slowly and surely, Hemmingway will be restored to full health.  His long white mane goes down to his shoulder and he has a wonderful, engaging personality. He loves cookies!

SteveSteve was seized as a 4 year old stallion in late 2006 – at the time he was wild and untouched.  At his first (and only) foster home he was gentled, castrated, and put into ground-work training – a couple months later he was started under saddle at a Ray Hunt clinic, and went on to be a great versatile trail mount, winning 2 competitive trail competitions in 2007.  The rider went on to interests outside of trail riding with other horses, and Steve has basically been turned out on pasture for the past 3 years. He has excellent ground manners, wonderful feet (never worn shoes), is an exceptionally “easy keeper” (never fed grain, and always fat) – he has a stocky build, very correct conformation, and good bones – he has never had a lameness issue and held up to heavy daily riding.   He is a fast learner and quick to please. The next home for Steve requires a handler/rider that is smart, consistent, and capable.

Stormy

Storm was born a few months after his Mom was rescued from a starvation situation along with 26 other horses. Little Storm is available for adoption along with his mom.

TerraTerra was awarded to TBAR in a neglect/cruelty case. She has put on significant weight and is now ready to be adopted as a companion animal. She is a sweet mare that would look beautiful in your pasture. She would be a perfect companion for a young family or older person.

Description:ADOPTED – Thank you!!Lucky got his name by being a lucky dog for real.  This sweet homeless pup was hit by a car  (I know, not so lucky – but read on), and the people who chanced to be there, were the kind of people who couldn’t pass by and leave him to his fate.  Several strangers stopped and took him to the vet. True Blue Animal Rescue was asked to take him into our rehabilitation/adoption program and sent Lucky’s story out in an email blast to members; who passed it along to their Facebook friends; the Brenham Banner ran his picture and story.  And that’s how Lucky’s life and chance for a loving home touched many wonderful people.   This group of total strangers jumped in and together, paid this baby’s vet bills.  Lucky has been fostered by a wonderful family who gave him love, comfort, and time to recover from broken bones.  This brave, funny, smart black and white pup is healed and ready for his forever home.  He’s approximately a year old, give or take a month; and weighs 30 lbs.  Lucky is a terrier/border collie mix with a great temperament and personality that won’t quit.  He is neutered, heart worm negative and has all his shots.  He has been fostered in a family with other dogs, cats, livestock and kids – He loves them all and gets along beautifully.  Oh, of course, Lucky is house trained.  If you would like to meet Lucky, call TBAR at 936-878-2349 or email us – [email protected].  You can see more about Lucky and all the precious critters at TBAR by visiting the website. www.t-bar.org.  On the website you can also learn about the adoption/foster program and download the forms to adopt or foster a rescue animal.

Name: Lab Puppy Black – ADOPTED

Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed
Gender: Female
Age: Baby

Description:ADOPTED – Thank you!

Their mother is a lab mix, very tall, lean, black with a white chest. She probably weighs around 50lbs. We aren’t sure who daddy is, but there is definitely some Border Collie in there, and who knows what else! Our best guess is that the yellow boy and black girl will end up around 30-40lbs, and the brown/white boy around 50lbs. This is a guess, and could change now that we can see their growth rates and now that they are getting proper nutrition.

The puppies have received their first round of vaccinations, are de-flea’d, wormed and started on heartworm preventative. Happy & Healthy and ready for adoption!

Northwest Pet Hospital is fostering these puppies for True Blue Animal Rescue. Go to their Facebook page and like them to see these puppies full photo album:

Description:

This week True Blue Animal Rescue would like to introduce you to Jackson.  He’s a 2 yr. old, short haired retriever (& pointer) and the friendliest guy you’ll ever meet.  Jackson’s passion is chasing and fetching balls, sticks or frisbees – and he is VERY GOOD at it.  He is still a bit underweight, but filling out fast and will soon be approx. 75 lb – a perfect weight for his size.  He’s a great runner and loves to play outside, so he’ll need a big fenced yard.  Jackson is also a loving, sociable dog and wants a human he can be best buddies with.  He will make a wonderful companion for someone who likes to have fun and explore with their dog.  He’ll gladly go jogging, hiking, to the beach or just riding in the car. He is also the kind of dog who’ll hang out on the couch or at the computer and be happy just to be with you.  Jackson is neutered, heart worm negative and current on all his shots.  If you’d like to meet him, call 936-878-2349 or email: [email protected]. The first step to adopting (or fostering) one of our rescue animals is to download, fill out and return the application form you’ll find on the website:  www.t-bar.org.  Or just call and ask for an application to be mailed to you.  You can see all the beautiful animals waiting for a home and read their stories on the website too – or friend True Blue Animal Rescue on Facebook and keep up with the animals, tips on animal care and more.

Name: Fabio

Breed: Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat)
Gender: Male
Age: Baby

Description:These darling puppies were stuffed in a plastic container and (illegally) dumped off in front of a house in the countryside. Although they are now safe and cared for by a True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) foster home, their little faces and sad eyes still show their confusion and concern over their future. Fabio, Sophia, & Ciara are about 7-8 weeks old and are a small-boned all American mix-breed who will grow to about 30 lbs. They have beautiful markings: black coats with striking symmetrical tan marks on their faces, ears, chest, and legs, along with cute little white paws. They are a wonderful age for bringing into your home and making them a member of your family. They are still a bit timid but only need to be loved, cuddled, and shown how nice people can be, to earn their trust and devotion. Description:ADOPTED – Thank You!

Cinnamon is a sweet, spicy girl.  She was chained to a gate on a hot day until a good samaritan freed her and took her in.  Unfortunately, Cinnamon’s rescuer cannot keep her, so she is looking for a forever home.  She tells us that Cinnamon is a boxer/terrier mix, approximately 6 months old – losing her baby teeth now – 35 pounds, newly spayed, up on vaccinations and wormed.  She is crate and house trained, loves to play, is self entertaining, and is full of puppy exhuberance.  Cinnamon’s foster mom has been training her and she is learning manners very quickly.  She gets along well with other dogs and would do well in a home with children.  If you are looking for a new family member, won’t you consider meeting Cinnamon?  She will certainly bring joy to your life.

Name: Chester

Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat)
Gender: Male
Age: Young

Description:

Chester’s Story from the TBAR memer who rescued him:  I was on my way home from the vet in Bryan and on 159 and Hwy 6, I had seen a little dog this morning that was absolutely skin and bones.  I tried to catch this morning and give food, but ran from me.  This afternoon was there again, so I went up the road to Moore Feed and bought dog food to put out for it.  By the time, I got back, it had been hit by a car.  He was running around trying to find food.   It was awful.  I went past the dog and then backed up and went to it and it was still alive.  I couldn’t let it stay there dying.  At any rate, I got it off of Hwy 6 and down in the ditch.  Another girl stopped to help me and we got it on a tarp that I had in the car.
I took to Kingdom Animal Hospital.  No serious injuries but banged up really bad, and nothing but an absolute bag of bones from starvation.  Said he had nothing in his stomach in the way of food but bones he had been eating.   The dog is short-haired, black, with white paws and a white tip on his tail.  Said probably cross with Border Collie and Lab, about 1 year old.  Is a male.  He is a small dog, probably won’t weigh more than 40 pounds when fat.  You got any kind souls out there that would give him a chance?

For more information, visit TBar’s website at http://www.t-bar.org or call 936-878-2349

s1413a4162567m10333261

Name: Asia – ADOPTED

Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever / Labrador Retriever (short coat)
Gender: Female
Age: Adult

Description:ADOPTED – Thank You!!Asia is a 4 yr. old female , yellow Lab who is full of fun and willingness to go what you like to do – in fact she is at the perfect age for Labs, the trainers tell us.  Plenty of puppy fun lovingness left, but grown up enough to focus.  Asia is house trained (and has not chewed a single thing or gotten in the garbage at her foster home), current on all her shots, worm meds, etc. and spayed.  Though she is always upbeat and loving with people and other dogs,  Asia has had some hard ships in her life.  She began as an abandoned youngster, picked up by Animal Control and spent plenty of time in a small concrete kennel run.  After awhile, some kind folks fell in love with her, adopted her and took her home where she felt love and comfort.  Unfortunately her new family were older people and began having problems of their own, making it hard to care for a big energetic dog.  To safe Asia from being returned to the pound, a good neighbor took her in and called TBAR to ask for help finding this lovely dog a home.  Asia had some separation anxiety, but her recent foster home reports she is very relaxed and obedient and can wile away an afternoon sleeping at her foster mom’s feet, or hanging out in the back yard with this family’s dog.  She needs a home where folks will understand that Asia has given her love instantly to each person who has fostered her and doesn’t understand why she keeps being whisked off from people and places she’s thinking are her own.  She will need a week or so to settle in and a family who will give her a slow, steady welcome  (i.e. take her on a walk, play in the yard with her. ) Because she’s spent alot of her life in small enclosures the vet would like to see her work her way into big exercise – so playing in the yard, walking on a leash chasing a few balls , all fine – take her running beside your bike on a 2 mile ride ?  Not yet – but she’ll get there.  Asia will need a well fenced yard.  That’s not to say that if you want her for a companion and spend your day working in your shop or store, Asia wouldn’t be happy to hang out all day and greet your customers. This is a special girl, her gentleness and loyalty are humbling  She needs a home and family who understand this about Labs and plan to make her part of the family.

To meet Asia and learn about TBAR’s adoption program go to: www.t-bar.org  , send an email to: [email protected], or   call 936/878-2349.

Update: Jan 2012: Asia is a nice girl in the house.  Doesn’t chew, get in the garbage, just sits quietly by your side.  That’s all she really wants, just to hang out with someone.

Sophie’s broken leg was almost a death sentence. The place she had been taken couldn’t afford surgery and she was scheduled to be put down. But a kind veterinarian saw what amazing potential she had and took her in, fixed her leg, and started looking for a home for her. She is now at TBAR, completely healthy and healed, (you’d never know she ever had a broken leg) and waiting for her forever home. Sophie is a small, pretty blue-heeler puppy about 8 months old and is already crate-trained and walks on a leash. She is a sweet and frisky dog who is so willing to please you just for a pat on the head in return. If you think your family is the one Sophie was saved for, call and come see her for yourself.

TBAR Receives Hay Grant from ASPCA

TBAR Receives Hay Grant from ASPCA

$5000 toward feeding horses for 3 months

 ASPCA Grant Badge sm

Washington, Texas — True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) announced today the award of a $5000 grant from the ASPCA to assist with hay costs.

“This year TBAR lost its primary hay donor.  In addition, we had an influx of horses whose owners could not support them as a result of the droughts.” said Melanie DeAeth, TBAR President. “This grant will allow us to feed our 40 on-site foster horses through the rest of the winter.”

For the previous eight years, TBAR had been the recipient of a large hay donation that fed the TBAR horses and allowed them to operate all winter long.  TBAR reports that they usually need 200 round bays of hay a year.  In the winter they use around 30 bales a month (they need less in the summer months due to the grassy land the horses have access to), and one bale alone feeds just four horses a week. This donation from ASPCA bought 66 bales of hay, roughly one-third of what is needed in the winter.  TBAR reports that this donation will get them through the rest of the season.  The other two-thirds of hay needed was purchased with money donated from TBAR supporters.

About True Blue Animal Rescue: TBAR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is a no-kill animal rescue located in Brenham, Texas.  If you would like to help their cause please consider donatingfostering or adopting.  Every little bit helps us to help another animal in need of safety and rehabilitation.  Save a life: adopt instead of shop and spay or neuter your pets!
